Child Care Training Schedule
July - December 2010

training session.
Session: Saturday Aug. 21, 2010      Sumter, SC
(Registration begins: Wed. Aug. 11 at 11:00 am)

9:30am-12:00pm Ready, Set, Go: Routines & Transitions in Early Childhood Classrooms
    2.5 Hrs. Professional Development
    Come prepared to learn appropriate daily routines that can be used in childcare that will offer the
    children a sense of consistency and security, yet remain flexible and responsive to the individual
    needs of each child. This training session will provide providers with some transitions to make a day at
    child care seem smooth and well-organized.
    Trainer: Deanna Woodberry
    Location for sessions: Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club (old Lincoln High School) 26 Council St.
    Sumter, SC  Diamonds Meeting Room, (down the hall to the left of the main entrance).


Session: Tuesday Sept. 14, 2010       Sumter, SC  
(Registration begins: Wed. Sept. 1 at 11:00 am)

6:30pm-8:30pm Blood Borne Pathogens
    2.0 Hrs. Health and Safety
    Topics covered will include universal precautions, protective equipment, & sample of an exposure
    control plan.

Session: Saturday Sept. 18, 2010       Sumter, SC  
(Registration begins: Wed. Sept. 1 at 11:00 am)

10:00am-12:30pm Putting All the Pieces Together, Curriculum, Assessment, and DAP
    2.5 Hrs. Curriculum
    Topics covered will include information about different curricula, assessments, and an introduction on
    developmentally appropriate practices.

Session: Tuesday Sept. 21, 2010        Sumter, SC  
(Registration begins: Wed. Sept. 8 at 11:00 am)

6:30pm-8:00pm Our Hands Touch Many Lives, Did You Wash ‘Um!
    1.5 Hrs. Health and Safety
    Participants will learn what DSS expects when it comes to hand washing and take away some different
    ways to teach children how to wash their hands appropriately while having fun.

    Location: Boys and Girls Club, 26 Council Street, Sumter, SC


Session: Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010    Florence, SC
(Registration begins: Wed. Sept. 29 at 11:00 am)

9:00am-2:00pm First Aid and Infant/Child CPR                         FEE: $10.00 per person
    Fees must be paid by check made payable to UW Success By 6 and mailed within 24 hours of
    registering.

(Registration begins Wed. Oct. 6 at 11:00 am)

10:00am-12:30pm Design, Create and Play
    2.5 Hrs. Curriculum  
    Participants will learn how the design and layout of the early childhood learning environment and
    placement and organization of learning materials in an early childhood classroom can enhance student
    learning through play.
    Trainers: Deanna Woodberry and Angie Gleaton

1:30pm-4:00pm Positive Teacher Communication with Young Children
    2.5 Hrs. Guidance
    Participants will learn strategies to use when communicating positively with young children in childcare.
    Learn how to use redirection and provide positive guidance.

    Location for both sessions: Hartsville County Library, 147 West Collage Ave, Hartsville, SC


Session: Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010    Florence, SC
(Registration begins: Wed. Oct. 20 at 11:00 am)

9:30am-12:00pm Working in Child Care, What Am I Suppose To Do Now?        
    2.5 Hrs. Program Administration
    What is expected of me as a teacher in a child care program? Who is Licensing and what are they
    looking for? Who is ABC and what are they looking for? How many DSS hours do I need to get and in
    what topics? What are child ratios? Many child care providers are placed into classrooms with the
    basics of hours and daycare policies but have no idea what DSS Regulations are or what the agencies
    coming in are expecting to see and hear. Come prepared to have fun while getting the answers to all
    of these questions and many more.

1:00pm-3:30pm Why Have Policies? Creating Parent and Employee Policies and Handbooks  
    2.5 Hrs Program Administration
    This interactive session will provide participants with samples of parent and provider policies and
    handbooks as well as give you the ideas you need to create one that will fit to your center’s needs.
